Pressure Point: TE 12 – Xiaoluo
- Name (Chinese): Xiaoluo – (消濼)
- Name (English): Draining Marsh
- Introduction: TE 12, Xiaoluo, is a significant pressure point used in traditional Chinese medicine for its therapeutic benefits. It is known for its location on the Triple Energizer meridian and its role in draining excess energy and promoting balance in the body.
Location
- This pressure point can be found on the line joining the olecranon and Jianliao TB-14, midway between Qinglengyuan TB-11 and Naohui TB-13, 5 cun proximal to the olecranon.
- It is situated just on the lower end of the bulge of the lateral head of the triceps brachii when the forearm is in pronation.
Pressure Point Identification
- Abduct the arm and locate two depressions below the acromion. Find Jianliao TB-14 at the posterior depression, below the posterior aspect of the lateral extremity of the acromion.
- Locate Tianjing TB-10 in a depression 1 cun above the olecranon. Draw an imaginary line between TB-14 and the olecranon. Measure TB-12 on this line and 4 cun above TB-10.
- Alternatively, use the ‘spreading hand technique’: Place the little fingers on TB-14 and TB-10 respectively and determine the midpoint of this distance with the thumbs. From the midpoint, measure 1 cun in a distal direction and locate TE 12 there.
Benefits
- Promotes energy balance in the Triple Energizer.
- Relieves shoulder and elbow pain.
- Aids in regulating the flow of Qi and blood.
Technique
Apply moderate pressure using the thumbs or fingers in a circular motion. Use acupressure or massage techniques to stimulate the point.
Precautions
- Be gentle, especially if the person is sensitive in the shoulder area. Avoid excessive force to prevent discomfort.
Conditions Treated
- Shoulder pain and stiffness.
- Elbow pain and discomfort.
- Regulation of the Triple Energizer meridian.
Related Points
- Jianliao TB-14: Located at the posterior depression below the acromion.
- Tianjing TB-10: Found in a depression 1 cun above the olecranon.
