Location

Qihaishu (BL 24) is located 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the 3rd lumbar vertebra (L3).

Pressure Point Identification

  • Begin by identifying Tuffier’s line, connecting the highest points of the iliac crest, with the spinous process of the 4th lumbar vertebra (L4) falling on this line.
  • Locate the spinous process of the 3rd lumbar vertebra (L3) by counting one up from L4.
  • Find Qihaishu (BL 24) 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of L3.
  • Note that Xiajishu (Ex-B-5) is at the same level but 3 cun lateral to the lower border of L3.
  • Points located between Fufen (BL-41) and Zhibian (BL-54) are in the lateral branch of the Bladder Channel, while those between Fengmen (BL-12) and Baihuanshu (BL-30) are in the medial branch. Ex-BL-5 is not part of the Bladder Channel but is located where the lateral branch passes.
