Pressure Point Identification

  • To locate BL 14, find the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra (C7), palpable when the neck flexes and extends. The 4th thoracic vertebra (T4) is four spinous processes below C7. Alternatively, locate T3, generally on the level of the medial end of the scapular spine, count down one spinous process, and find T4. BL-14 is then 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of T4.
  • Points like Gaohuangshu (BL-43) are at the same level but 3 cun lateral to T4. Points between Fufen (BL-41) and Zhibian (BL-54) are in the lateral branch of the Bladder Channel, while those between Fengmen (BL-12) and Baihuanshu (BL-30) are in the medial branch.
